Angel Di Maria slams the worst coach he has ever had
Juventus winger reveals his frustrations with former Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal
Angel Di Maria has launched a scathing attack on former Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal, branding him the worst coach he has ever worked with.
The Argentina international, who spent one season at Old Trafford under the Dutchman, has revealed his frustrations with Van Gaal's tactics and man-management.
Speaking to ESPN, Di Maria said: "Van Gaal was the worst coach of my career. I had a lot of problems with him, and I don't want to talk about him anymore."
Di Maria's criticism of Van Gaal is the latest in a long line of complaints from former players who have worked with the Dutchman.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Memphis Depay have all spoken out about their negative experiences with Van Gaal.
Di Maria's problems with Van Gaal
Di Maria's main problem with Van Gaal was his tactics. The Argentine winger is a natural winger, but Van Gaal often played him out of position in central midfield.
Di Maria said: "I didn't like the way he played me. I'm a winger, but he played me in midfield. I didn't feel comfortable there."
Another problem Di Maria had with Van Gaal was his man-management. The Argentine winger claims that Van Gaal was very critical of him, and that he often made him feel like he was not good enough.
Di Maria said: "He was always criticizing me. He never said anything positive. I felt like I was always one mistake away from being dropped."
Di Maria's departure from Manchester United
Di Maria's relationship with Van Gaal reached a breaking point in the summer of 2015.
After just one season at Old Trafford, Di Maria was sold to Paris Saint-Germain for a fee of £44 million.
Di Maria has since revealed that he was desperate to leave Manchester United because of Van Gaal.
He said: "I couldn't wait to leave Manchester United. I was so unhappy there. Van Gaal was the main reason why I left."
Van Gaal's response to Di Maria's criticism
Van Gaal has not yet responded to Di Maria's criticism.
However, the Dutchman has a history of hitting back at his critics.
In 2017, Van Gaal said: "I don't care what people say about me. I know I'm a good coach, and I have a lot of success to prove it."
