Five Tornadoes Touch Down, Damaging Homes and Uprooting Trees
Storms Produce Multiple Tornadoes, Sparking Watches and Warnings
At least five tornadoes touched down in the Chicago area Monday evening, including an EF-1 tornado on the city's Near West Side, as a complex of destructive storms moved across eastern Iowa and Illinois.
The National Weather Service reported that the storms were moving toward Illinois around 7 pm, bringing with them winds as strong as 70 miles per hour. The Chicago Office of Emergency Management warned residents to take shelter and seek safety.
The storm had spun away from the city by late evening, but not before causing significant damage. At least three tornadoes touched down in the Chicago area late on Wednesday, damaging homes and uprooting trees, according to the National Weather Service.
