Ecuadorian rider becomes first from his nation to win a stage in all three Grand Tours
Richard Carapaz of Ecuador rode solo on the final climb to secure victory on Stage 17 of the 2024 Tour de France, marking a historic achievement for his country and his career. Carapaz crossed the finish line at the SuperDevoluy summit 30 seconds ahead of Simon Yates, securing his first stage win in the Tour de France and completing a set of victories in all three cycling Grand Tours: the Vuelta a EspaƱa, the Giro d'Italia, and now the Tour de France. Carapaz's triumph marks the first time an Ecuadorian rider has won a stage in any of the Grand Tours.
